A very special couple were guests of honour at a football game featuring a strong CLC Hustyns side which took on St Brewards in the third Chris Treglown Memorial Game – Chris’s parents John and Julia.
The match was the latest in a series of fundraising events organised by staff at CLC Hustyns designed to celebrate the memory of Chris, a talented Cornish singer whose death in a car accident at the tragically young age of 24 cut short what was destined to be a promising career as a classical singer.
His loving parents were determined to do all that they could to commemorate their son, and set up the Chris Treglown Fund to help young singers between the ages of 16 and 24 to realise their dreams.
At the time of his death in 2012, the young man was working at CLC Hustyns as part of the leisure team and his shocked colleagues and friends determined to support the fund set up in his memory.
This year’s Memorial Game was a closely fought contest played under grey skies and rain filled clouds and was heading for a tough 0-0 draw until Hustyns’ Ben Howarth nicked the winner with nine minutes of the match remaining.
After the game the two teams met at the bar for refreshments and took on the next challenge of the day – the pub quiz. The winning team was led by CLC Hustyns resort manager Jamie Alexander and the team won emphatically, scoring 26 out of 30!
The day raised £200 for the fund – find out more about its work with young people at http://www.christreglown.co.uk/Chris_Treglown_Foundation_Fund/Fund.html
Hustyns staff have held themed aqua aerobics events, quiz nights, football matches and one staff member did a sky dive all in support of the fund and next up will be a special summer music concert and barbecue to be held at CLC Hustyns next week.
