Here at Hustyns we take very seriously the need to provide a high quality experience for our guests while at the same time making sure that everything we do is designed to help the environment and improve sustainability.
Our Green Team
We have established a “Green Team” made up of members of staff who enthusiastically promote environmental awareness to colleagues and our guests through The Little Green Handbook, which showcases their work around the resortWe have worked hard to build up our green credentials and appreciate the support of our guests in our eco-friendly initiatives to reduce energy use and waste. We have an extensive recycling programme and do all we can to avoid using landfill sites.
Our hard work has been rewarded following the 2012 review by Green Tourism Board inspectors and we are now proud to display our Gold award.
We use local produce and suppliers where we can to reduce our carbon footprint while contributing to our reputation for providing quality menus, and we harvest vegetables from our own organic vegetable garden so the hotel kitchen has supplies of fresh seasonal produce to accompany locally reared meat.
Flora and fauna
The resort is set in beautiful unspoilt countryside and its 100 acres of landscaped gardens and woodlands are maintained to provide a haven for both our guests and our flora and fauna.Guests enjoy visiting the bird watching hut overlooking the duck pond and bird “zip wires” have been hung between trees high above the ground – the feeding stations hung on them attract a variety of birds.
Hustyns has its own colony of bees that live in hives in the grounds and the honey is used by our chefs in a variety of dishes, including our home-made ice-cream. We plan to increase the size of our bee colony from 20,000 to 100,000 over the next year and have created the sort of habitat that encourages them.
Protecting the environment
Hustyns is a member of the Cornwall Sustainable Tourism Network (COAST) because we believe in supporting local initiatives to protect, preserve and enhance the environment. It is our stated aim to respect, look after and nurture the natural environment at Hustyns in every way possible.
