Busy Cornish September kicks off with a chukker

Surfers will make way for polo players in a special event at Watergate Bay near Newquay in Cornwall on September 11th. International polo players will play exhibition chukkers in the Polo on the Beach event sponsored by Veuve Clicquot. It’s fast and furious, and this year Olympic silver medallist Mary King will be on hand to showcase her horsemanship.

The two teams will take to the sand at 6.30pm and entrance is free. From 3pm onwards the Veuve Clicquot champagne bar will be open serving bubbly and food will be available from the beach barbecue.

Visitors to Hustyns will hopefully be able to take advantage of Indian summer weather as a host of other events take place throughout September. They include the Newquay Fish Festival from the 14th to 16th; the Festival of Sport at St Michael’s Mount from the 14th to 16th; and power boat racing at Watergate Bay from the 15th to 16th and at Fistral beach from the 28th to 29th.

A visit to Cornwall isn’t complete without devouring a famous Cornish Pasty. The Cornish Pasty Festival takes place in Redruth from Friday the 21st to Sunday 23rd. Live theatre will take to the streets on Friday and Sunday is dedicated to heritage walks while Pasty Day itself is on Saturday. Watch them being made, sample the different fillings and let the kids make their own pasty.

The month’s events end with the Cornwall Food and Drink Festival in Truro from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th when the cream of Cornish produce will be celebrated.
